| Debra is an Episcopalian, and was the editorial director and then publisher for Morehouse Publishing, an Episcopal publishing house. Before that she managed the bookstore for the nine seminaries of the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California. She is the author of seven books of Christian spirituality, and has written for a wide variety of journals and magazines including The Lutheran, Publishers Weekly, Alive Now, Spirituality and Health, U. S. Catholic, and online forums such as Beliefnet.com.
Debra has an eccletic background, having experienced what she calls “musical religions” as a child. Her mother’s spiritual journey took the family through a variety of religions including the Unitarian Universalist church and the Presbyterians. She was even Bat Mitvahed in a Reformed Jewish congregation. That experience, and her Masters degree in folklore from University of California, Berkeley, convinced her that no one has a corner on the truth, but that all people have access to some part of it, and that all faiths should be honored. After college she experimented with the United Church of Christ, and then finally found a home in the Episcopal Church.
She lives with her family and plays with her cats, and continues to write books when Gabi isn’t jumping on her computer keyboard or otherwise creating a ruckus. |
